Albanian is an Indo-European macrolanguage spoken by about 6 or 7 million people, most of them in Albania. It is Also spoken in their communities of Serbia, Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece and Italy. Its main dialects are Gheg, Tosk, Arvantica and Arbëreshë, although the words of our Gay Dictionary are present in all dialects.
The situation of the LGBT community in Albania is not good despite the fact that due to complaints from the Council of Europe, homosexuality was decriminalized in 1995. Although the age of consent is equal and there is anti-discrimination legislation, civil unions and equal marriage are not allowed. The promises of their politicians do not translate into equal legislation. In 2015, Albania occupied the 19th position in the European ranking of the rights of the LGBT community and in general the Albanian society disapproves of the relationships between people of the same sex.
