How to say gay in Azeri
Below are the words of our Azeri Gay Dictionary that we will expand in new editions. If you know any more, please, contact us. But first some information about the language and where it is spoken.
The Azerbaijani language, also called Azeri or Azerbaijani Turkish is the official language of Azerbaijan, country belonging to the Soviet Union until its disintegration. It is an Altaic language having several dialects spoken in several neighboring countries such as Iran, Russia, Georgia, Iraq and Turkey, so the Azeri Gay Dictionary share terms with Russian and Turkish.
Homosexuality was legalized in Azerbaijan in 2000 to join the Council of Europe, however legislative initiatives have not yet been taken to protect the rights of LGBT people. In the society the Soviet influence persists, nevertheless there are some organizations and publications for the collective, and in the capital, Baku, there is certain social permissiveness as long as homosexuality is lived in private. These contrasts had their exponent with the LGBT activist Isa Shahmarli who, without job, without money and without his family (who considered her a sick person), unfortunately ended his life by hanging himself with an LGBT flag.
