Bengali is the official language of Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura, which belongs to the Indo-European family and is spoken by 230 million people.

The situation of LGBT people in Bangladesh is bad since homosexuality and its defense are banned for ten years until life imprisonment and deportation for immigrants. However, traditionally, homosexual behavior was tolerated when there was lack of access to sex with women, which is usually the case in Muslim countries like Bangladesh. This has led to different types of sexual manifestations such as transvestism, prostitution of adolescents (who suffer abuses by the authorities), and sexual practices between family members. There is great social pressure for marriage and, in general, people do not know what is gay or lesbian.
