Bulgarian is an Indo-European language of the southern branch of the Slavic languages. It is written with the Cyrillic alphabet. Bulgarian is the official language of Bulgaria which is closely related to the Macedonian language by its socio-cultural and historical development. In their diversity has gotten rich with archaic words and international as well as typical words of each region near its borders (Turkey, Greece, Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Romania) as you can see in our Gay Dictionarys.
Bulgaria has the honor of being the origin of the word Bugger, say the gossips that was an invention of the Catholic Church that there was an animistic sect that practiced sodomy, but the truth is that homosexual behavior was given along and the width of the planet and that only Christians denied sex between men, in public of course.
In Bulgaria, as part of the Ottoman Empire, homosexuality was legalized in 1858, but after its liberation it was again criminalized. In 1968 it was legalized again because it was considered a involuntary and painfully disease, but not a crime. At present Bulgarian society is in a process of change and acceptance of sexual diversity. Marriage and adoption are not allowed, but there are several LGBT associations and gay pride is celebrated since 2008.

The word Pedal (Педал) derives from pederast (педераст), and it is a derogatory expression quite common in the nations that we call pederasts countries, which are those that with their most frequent insults try to relate male homosexuality with pedophilia. It should be borne in mind that statistics show that most pedophiles are heterosexual men who assault girls in their proximity, however, it is very easy to justify homophobia behind a false pretense of protecting children.
Variations: Pederas, Pederast, Pederast neshtasten (big pederast), Pederuga, Dupedave, Pedro. And in general, any word or expression that starts sounding like “ped”.
