Flemish is the name given to the set of dialects of the Dutch language spoken in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, that belongs to the Germanic family of Indo-European and is spoken by about 6 million people.
Belgium is one of the most progressive countries in the world in terms of LGBT rights, being legal the homosexual behavior, with the same age of consent, since 1795. It was the second country (after Holland) to legalize equal marriage in 2003, allows homoparental adoption since 2006 and gives access to assisted fecundation techniques for lesbians. Belgium has legislation against discrimination and against hate crimes and is one of the few countries that have had a president, Elio Di Rupo, openly homosexual.
