Malay is a language of the Austronesian family, used primarily in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Peninsula Malacca and Cocos Islands and in total by almost two hundred million people.
Malaysia, an officially Muslim country, is one of the worst countries in the world for the LGBT community. In Malaysia, the identities are not penalized but the behaviors. Anal sex, whether homosexual or heterosexual, is punishable with corporal punishment and up to twenty years in prison and even with death in some states. There are also long prison terms for oral sex or mutual masturbation. Transvestites and transgender women are condemned for public immorality. In Malaysia, there is some LGBT activism, and in 2017 the LGBT pride march in Taylor’s University was canceled after Islamist pressure.
