Feygele (פֿײגעלע)
The Yiddish word feygele (פֿייגעלע) is the diminutive of foygl (פֿויגל) which in turn comes from the word fogal, from the ancient German, meaning bird. The meaning of little bird is not widely used today but is used to refer disparagingly to a man who is or could be gay, having also the meaning of a little girl. Differing but related meanings since both the diminutive and the youth as well as feminization limit or reduce the manhood.
Variations: faygelah, faygele, faygeleh, fegele, fegeleh, feygeleh.
