Sí fāt lóu (屎弗佬)

Sí fāt lóu (屎弗佬) is one of the expressions Chinese people use to derogatory reference to a homosexual man and that we could translate to the English language as Faggot. The last part lóu (佬) is commonly used as a derogatory term for a man, and the first part Sí fāt (屎弗) translates as the butt. So, this idea of butt-man is behind this hard term, belonging to the Cantonese Chinese. There is a similar expression with Sí fāt jái (屎弗仔), but maybe, in this case, to refer to an adult man.

  • The Cantonese characters for this would be 屎弗佬 (Sí fāt lóu). The character 佬 is commonly used as a derogatory term for a person, such as in 金魚佬 (gām yú lóu) (meaning “goldfish man” or pedophile, as it stems from a man who wold use goldfish to lure children).

    • Thank you very much, Noah!
Your suggestion has been great. We have modified the entry, as you have indicated. Please, is it true that Sí fāt (屎 弗) translates to English as shit?

      • If you translate it literally, it would be shit-hole (referring to the anus). But the better translation would probably be “butt”.

  • I am a Hong konger and I’ve never heard anyone use this term before. We just say the English word gay.
